The Big Issue Cymru
Now Playing: Death Cab for Cutie

"Cardiff Afterlife", a story of mine, will appear in a special Welsh-themed fiction issue of "The Big Issue Cymru". My story is a kind of sequel to my earlier "Signal to Noise" from ZIMA BLUE, although this new one, at 3000 words, is considerably shorter. The fiction in this issue has been compiled by top crime writer John Williams, and I'll post more details when I know when the issue will be going on sale. Obviously, you won't  be able to get it outside of Wales - but hey, Wales is a nice place and we only charge admission coming in, not leaving.

In other news ... well, there is no other news. I'm just beavering away on the new book. Reading: CARTER BEATS THE DEVIL, by Glen David Gold. Listening: a new Creedence compilation, The Fall (as ever), Von Sudenfed, the aforementioned Death Cab for Cutie.

Not outside of Wales ... that had better be Welsh humor or you may not hear the last of it ...

Hi Merryn

No, it's really only going to be available in Wales. Anyone wanting a copy will presumably only have one means of doing so, which is by buying from a licensed street vendor. Which is kinda the point of The Big Issue, really :-)

Hi, guess this is kind of off topic, but here goes anyway :)

Just finished reading House of Suns about a week ago, and I must say, I really enjoyed it (as I have done with all your books so far). I've always been a fan of "deep time" like you describe it, so it was very exciting. Also a fan of vast megastructures etc. Stories about alien cultures thats gone extinct, or where technology got the better of them (read: Ringworld and similar stories).

I kind of hope you'll get back to the "Pushing Ice" universe... I really want to know more about what happened to the crew :) I'm holding my fingers crossed, hehe.

Are you planning any trips to scandinavia? Sadly, I was in Japan at the time you visited Stockholm, so I didn't have the chance to meet and get an autograph :/ Oh well.

Anyways, Hope you're doing well, and your next novel is progressing smoothly. Looking forward to it.

Best regards,

Jonas (from Norway)

Hi Jonas

Sorry I didn't reply to this in good time. Glad you liked HOS. I do plan to get back to the PI universe at some point, but it's not going to be the next book. I kind of hope that PI is sufficiently self-contained that a sequel would be nice, rather than necessary, if you get my drift.

Sorry you didn't catch me in Sweden. Not sure when I'll be back there specifically, but I'll definitely be in Finland next summer.

Should add, of course, that I've no plans to visit Norway either, nice as that would be.

Following on from Jonas (from Norway) comment off the subject, Why did you make HOS smaller than all your other uk books (height)? It does not look so good on my book shelf with the rest.

Hi Phil

Things like that aren't under my control. I believe the change in size came about after feedback from booksellers and dealers who reckoned they'd shift more copies if the books were of a more normal format.
